My Education

I have fond memories of my time at the infant school, junior school and first year at high school. The time spent in the rest of the high school just seems to have been awkward, horrid and hateful. I couldn't wait to leave but at the same time did not want to leave. I am surprised at how many people on facebook say they had the best time of their lives at high school, personally I cannot agree

I have vague memories of a nursery school in Eccleston, St Helens. I remember what seemed like a huge, dark Victorian building. I remember a teacher who played guitar. I remember lots of things to do and play with and I remember going up a narrow dark staircase, into a very dark room to watch Playschool on a huge black and white television.

I remember a lady that lived near by with a dalmatian dog. I remember a lady who lived across the road called "Joan" and her elderly mother and a "hush puppy" dog called Santa. I remember a little girl that lived near by that I would go and see sometimes, she was deaf and always seemed to be naughty, from what I can recollect. There was also an older boy next door I would sometimes go and visit. I don't know why but I feel as if I remember passing a smithy on the walk to nursery but not sure if this is an accurate memory!

When we moved from St Helens to Newton-le-Willows, my Mum couldn't get me into a local nursery, so she persuaded somebody to let me go to the infant school a term or so earlier than my contemporaries. I always remember the older class telling me I should be in their class because I was in their class last time. I don't have any of those memories of a horrid first day in school, like so many others, probably because I had got used to the building, teachers and pupils beforehand.
